Train Passengers Wanted!

January 28, 2011 Leave a comment

Storrowton Village Museum has asked the Chester Foundation for some help… and they asked us! (That’s called networking!) The folks fromt he Village and the Foundation are looking for folks who used to ride the train from Chester to schools in Westfield… we’re probably not talking about young whippersnappers! I know it was not uncommon in the 1940’s and early 1950’s for folks to take the train to Huntington to rollerskate at what is now the Huntington Hardware store!  Contact Dave Pierce at 413 354-7712 or see ChesterFoundation Website if you think you can help.

Sympathies to Oppenheimers…

January 27, 2011 Leave a comment

We just learned that the recent (January 24th) tragic shooting in Saint Petersburg Florida included Jeffrey Yaslowitz, son of Janice Oppenheimer Yaslowitz and grandson of Grace.  Here is a link to the news report… and you can find Grace’s address on the site. Our sympathies to the family!

Tour Chester… virtually!

Has it been a while since you’ve been to Chester? Curious as to what the town looks like? Here’s a site that will allow you to take a drive through town! Now, a couple of warnings… first you aren’t going to get to go down side streets… and the photos are at least somewhat dated… and it may take you a while to figure out how to do it… but it’s fun!

We use this site occasionally in real estate to give folks a sense of neighborhoods… rural areas tend not to be available. I “drove” from the post office to Pine Hill Cemetary. I wonder who that was walking their dog at the end of Hamden Street?
